Wendell Jay Feenstra, 69, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 19, 2018 at his Lynden home with his family by his side, after a 15-month battle with lymphoma.
Wendell was born March 1, 1949 to John and Janet Feenstra in Parkston, South Dakota. He moved to Lynden from South Dakota at age 4 with his parents and two sisters. Wendell spent the remainder of his life in the Lynden area, graduating from Lynden Christian High School.
Wendell married Lois “Loi” Heeringa on Sept. 24, 1971, and together they had two sons and a daughter. They were married 46 years. He worked as an RV technician at Wholesale Travel Sales for the majority of his working career.
Wendell enjoyed mowing lawn and tending the church lawn for many years. He began his retirement with a two-acre blueberry farm located on the family property. He enjoyed watching his children play sports, and later delighted in watching his grandchildren play sports. Wendell was always working on a project ranging from car restoration to house remodeling to landscaping. There wasn’t much he couldn’t figure out how to fix or build.
Wendell was an early member of Faith Community Church where he held various roles from youth leader to elder to deacon. He enjoyed studying God’s Word through Bible Study Fellowship.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, John and Janet Feenstra; stepmother Johanna Feenstra; in-laws Lewis and Lucy Heeringa; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Bos and Ron Heeringa.
Wendell is survived by wife Loi (Heeringa) Feenstra of Lynden; son Cory and Julie Feenstra of Lynden, daughter Kara and Chris Boyd of Lynden, and son Tim and Sunny Feenstra of Issaquah; grandkids Tanner and Sami Feenstra (Cory and Julie) and Abby, Eli and Esther Boyd (Chris and Kara).
