Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend Wayne Brink, age 74, of Lynden, passed away suddenly on Monday, Sept. 18, 2017.
He was born on May 30, 1943 to Al and Nell (Kostelyk) Brink in Bellingham. Wayne grew up in Lynden and graduated from Lynden Christian High School in 1961. He married his high school sweetheart, Janice (Scheffer). They both attended Western Washington State College, and he earned a pharmacy degree from the University of Washington. Wayne owned Brink’s Pharmacy in Lynden from 1972 to 2002. He retired from Safeway Pharmacy in 2013.
Wayne and Janice raised four children, Janelle (Rick) Vis, Cindy (Keith) VanderGriend, Ryan (Sara Tinklenberg) and Alicia (Mattias) Cunningham. Their 10 grandchildren are: Jana (Steve) Verhagen, Beth (Kevin) Gruzewski, Sarah Vis, Sam and Jack VanderGriend, Coleson, Logan and Alivia Brink, Anton and Max Cunningham. Their three great-grandchildren are: Nathan and Elliot Verhagen and Rivers Gruzewski. Wayne is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Bryan and Jeanine; his brother Jeff; and Scheffer in-laws Jim, Sally and Gord Van Corbach, Marna and Dean Kredit, and Jeff Nibbelink.
Wayne was preceded in death by his father Al and mother Nell Brink, parents-in-law Joe and Anne Scheffer, brother Doug and sister-in-law Nancy Brink, sisters-in-law Karen Nibbelink and Connie Brink.
Wayne loved and served the Lord as a member of Second Christian Reformed Church and as a volunteer in the community. He was a Lynden Christian School board member, church elder and deacon, and volunteered at the paper baler. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Wayne cherished time with his wife Janice, hiking and traveling.
His memorial service will be in Second CRC, where we will give glory to God in remembrance of Wayne, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, with Pastor Ben deRegt officiating.
