R. Vernon Duim passed away at home on April 18, 2017 surrounded by his family.
Vernon was born to Riekus and Maggie Duim in Sequim, Washington, on Jan. 10, 1936. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1963, spending most of his enlistment in Germany. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping and taking care of his large yard.
He is survived by Mary (Markhart), his wife of 54 years; his children Brian, Bruce (Karen) and Carolyn (Bobby); and granddaughters Christina and Miranda.
He was preceded in death by his brother Gerald Duim and his grandson Christopher.
Memorials can be made to Whatcom Hospice.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 4, in Greenacres Memorial Park, Ferndale.
