Shalmir Faye Clousing went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017. She was 89 years old. Shalmir knew her greatest need in life was to have her sins forgiven. Shalmir was known for her beautiful soprano voice that she used to honor her Lord when she sang her many solos. She was giving and committed to raising her children in a Christian home.
Shalmir was born on May 18, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, an only child to Harry and Sadie (Staal) Ungersma. She spent her younger years in Chicago before the family moved to Bozeman, Montana, where she graduated from high school. After Shalmir and Lawrence Clousing were married in May 1952, they moved to San Diego, where Lawrence served in the U.S. Navy. After his service, they returned to Bozeman and then in 1990 moved to Lynden.
Shalmir worked as a bank teller and operator in her younger years. When her children arrived, she enjoyed being a homemaker. As the children were growing, she became an Avon lady helping to earn a bit of extra income. She played the piano and was an artist and seamstress, making many of the kids’ outfits.
Shalmir was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, and her parents.
She is survived by children Michael (Suzanne) Clousing, Jeffrey (Ching) Clousing, Ramona (Harley) Navis, Jocelyn (Daniel) Hogan and Erich (Lisa) Clousing; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and many cousins and friends.
