Dr. Roy “Dean” Seeman was born on July 9, 1931, to Ted and Hattie Seeman in Woodward, Oklahoma, one of nine children. He passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 83 on May 30, 2015. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Virginia, who passed away on April 28, 2013; and four of his siblings.
He is survived by daughters Jodi Knudson, Cindy Spires and Wendy Johnson; six grandchildren; brother Marvin; and sisters Eudell, Dorothy Lee and Ellen.
Dr. Seeman was an accomplished athlete and football player in high school and at Oklahoma State University, playing both offense and defense and he was the team’s leading scorer in 1951. He graduated from Oklahoma University Medical School in 1958 and became a flight surgeon for the U.S. Air Force. He practiced geriatric medicine in East Mesa and Apache Junction, Arizona, for the last 40 years, making remarkable contributions to healthcare. He designed one of the first computerized medical records programs in the 1980s for concise record keeping and initiated other innovate efforts for that time such as health screening for the early detection of disease. He touched many peoples’ lives with his care and humor; he believed in quality of life, not quantity. Dr. Seeman also practiced organic gardening since the 1970s, loved woodworking and spending time with his wife, family and dogs. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
