Rosemary Allene Kobberstad passed away on Feb. 16, 2017. She was born on Sept. 11, 1927 in Bellingham to Boyd and Ruth (Munkres) Davie. On Dec. 25, 1945 Rosemary married Earl R. Kobberstad and they resided in Ferndale until 1964. They also lived in Lynden for over 30 years. After Earl’s passing, she lived in Auburn, Washington; Jefferson, Oregon; and Dallas, Oregon.
Rosemary drove school buses for 27 years, 25 of them for the Lynden Public School, from 1967 to 1992. She received a 25-year and 250,000 miles of safe driving plaque from the school district. When she was a teen, she worked for Draper Valley Hatchery. She also worked on the family farm, at the cannery in Ferndale, and for the Lynden Christian nursing home and O’Cains nursing home in Bellingham as a nurse’s aide, and did lunchroom duty at Lynden public schools.
Rosemary loved to cook and bake. She made cinnamon rolls for the Silver Fox in Everson, and wedding cakes and other cakes for special occasions. She enjoyed making crafts and would teach children to make crafts in Earl’s classroom. She adored children and welcomed her children’s friends and grandchildren’s friends into her family. She was great at entertaining guests. She enjoyed playing baseball; she and Earl coached girls’ softball in Lynden, and they loved watching the Seattle Mariners. Rosemary was active in her church, serving as a deaconess at the old Seventh Day Adventist Church on the Church Road.
Rosemary is survived by four children, Judith (Terry) Rose of Albany, Oregon, Richard Kobberstad of Elk Grove, California, Norman (Mary) Kobberstad of Auburn, Washington, and Jay (Debbie) Kobberstad of Blaine; sister Betty Dame of Ferndale; brother Ray Davie of Battle Ground, Washington; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl, brother Boyd Davie and sister Wilhema Cowin.
