Robert (Bob) Carlson Opsvig passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 18, 2017 in Lynden.
He was born Sept. 25, 1929 in Minot, North Dakota, to Claus Opsvig and Harriet (Carlson) Opsvig. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17 and served honorably. On July 4, 1954 he married the love of his life, Myla (Lund), in Washington, D.C. They resided in Maryland until December 1956, when they decided to move to Seattle to be closer to their families. Bob’s career as a real estate appraiser lasted into his early 1980s.
Bob and Myla moved to Lynden in the mid-’90s. He enjoyed the annual family fishing vacation at La Push, Washington. He was an avid golfer and a gourmet cook, and he loved a good discussion. Most of all, he was devoted to his wife, Myla. He was a loving father and grandfather.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Claus and Harriet Opsvig; brother John Opsvig and sister Karen Opsvig.
He is survived by Myla, his wife of 62 years; six children, Robb Opsvig, Kristen (Rusty) Reams, Eric (Teresa) Opsvig, Todd (Jan) Opsvig, Heidi (Brian) Croissant and Sonja (Bob) Beal; 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Elvira Reynolds; and a brother, Dr. Paul Kent (Susan) Opsvig.
A memorial service will be held at a later date with full military honors. Interment will be in Tahoma National Cemetery.
