Robert James Hanowell, our loving husband, father and grandpa, left us on Jan. 13, 2018. He is joining his parents, Charles and Rosalie Hanowell, and his much-loved granddaughter, Hayley Dawn Hanowell. He was born on Dec. 11, 1941, in Sumas Cottage Hospital.
Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann; three children, daughter Tammy (Brad) Johnson of Sumas, son Tim (Rhonda) Hanowell of Everson, and daughter Laurie Hanowell of Ellensburg; his six grandchildren, Blake Lootens (Lauren Lythe), Brooke Lootens, Jennifer (Ryan) Pemberton, Leann (Ben) Van Dyken, Torry Johnson and Chelsea Johnson (Patrick Hilmoe); and his six great-grandchildren, Liam Lootens, Avery Lootens-Corn, Emma and Hudson Pemberton, Khloe and Lexi Van Dyken. He also leaves behind his brother, Bill Hanowell of Spokane; five sisters, Bev Deeter, Dot (Lonnie) Davenport, Cathy Minaker, Marcia Hanowell and Daisy (Ron) Knittel, all of Everson; brothers-in-law Don Harvey and Jim (Marilyn) Harvey and sister-in-law Sheila (Len) Gossen, all from British Columbia, Canada.
Bob was a 1959 graduate of Nooksack Valley High School. He worked at Georgia-Pacific for 35 and a half years and enjoyed fishing, playing crib, working in his yard and spending time with his family. He will be missed by all of us.
Instead of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory can be made to Whatcom Hospice, 2800 Douglas Ave., Bellingham, WA 98225. Our family thanks the staff at Whatcom Hospice and the Christian Health Care Center for their wonderful care of our loved one. After four years of declining health Bob can finally rest in peace.
A private graveside service for family and close friends will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, in Nooksack Cemetery.
