Robert “Bob” Irwin Apsey Jr. passed away on March 31, 2018. He was born on Oct. 7, 1947 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Robert and Mona (Eagan) Apsey. He and his mother moved in 1949 to Whatcom County, where he was raised by Mona and Drue Burrous.
From 1965 to 1968 he served in the 82nd Airborne with the U.S. Army. In 1968 he married Jill Johnson and together they had one daughter, Keri. Bob worked for contractors in Whatcom and Skagit county refineries. He loved the outdoors, and especially enjoyed his vacations in Alaska. Bob was always easy-going, caring and funny, and he liked to tease.
Bob is survived by his Washington family: the 50-year love of his life, Jill; his daughter, Keri (Ted) Bricker; two grandsons, Jade and Kobe; father-in-law Jerry (Jill) Johnson; brother Darren “Mike” (Rebecca) Burrous; sister-in-law Julie Johnson; and his Michigan family: step-mother Donna Apsey; brother Patrick “Michael” Apsey (Paula Frank); sisters Rennell (Joe) Carillo, Dawn Apsey (Ken Everling), Barbara (Jimmy) Lett and Kelly Apsey.
He was predeceased by his mother, Mona Burrous; his father, Robert I. Apsey Sr.; step-father, Drue M. Burrous; and a brother, Danny Apsey.
A graveside service will be held at noon Saturday, April 14, in Greenacres Memorial Park, with Pastor Bob Marvel officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted to Robert’s memorial fund at Wells Fargo bank in Ferndale.
