Ralph Farrar

Ralph C. Farrar, Ph.D., a 19-year resident of Ferndale, died peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, at the age of 90 on March 12, 2021.
Born in 1930 in Cabool, Missouri, Ralph first met Iris Gardner of Wellington, Kansas, on a blind date in 1953, and they were married six months later, beginning their journey together. They enjoyed raising their two daughters, camping, fishing and traveling around the world. Ralph and Iris were the love of each other’s lives and they enjoyed almost 59 years of marriage prior to her death in 2012. The Farrars spent a great deal of their lives in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, before relocating to the Pacific Northwest. It was the best move they ever made.
Ralph was devoted to his family, but was always ready to help out a colleague, neighbor or friend in need. He was a renowned research chemist, who in the latter years of his employment with Phillips Petroleum Company traveled the world to solve problems at chemical plants, and he spent a great deal of time in courtrooms providing expert testimony in trials. Ralph had to his credit 52 patents in rubber and plastic research.
Ralph is survived by his daughters, Linda Farrar and Trish Farrar (Mulvihill); his son-in-law Steve Mulvihill; and his cat Drew, the friendliest cat in the world.
At Ralph’s request, no services will be held.
