Peter Boonstra, 90, a long-time resident of Lynnwood, passed away on Aug. 15, 2023. He was born in Beets, Friesland, the Netherlands in 1933, the son of Oscar and Anna Boonstra. Peter immigrated to the United States, moving to Lynden with his family in 1948 when he was 15 years old.
He served time with the U.S. Army, serving a tour in Korea. Peter was never married and worked at Boeing for 35 years where he was an electrical engineer earning many awards. He also worked at buying and fixing up houses and turning them into rentals.
He attended the Presbyterian Church in Everett and later the University Presbyterian Church.
He enjoyed traveling internationally and going on cruises. He liked collecting his pictures and showing them to family.
Peter was the oldest of nine children. He is survived by his sisters Janet Honcoop, Pauline Ray, Theresa (Don) Kamphouse, and brother Herman (Eleanor) Boonstra, sister-in-law Shirley Boonstra, and Sylvia Salias. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Fred Boonstra, brother Andrew Boonstra, and sister Joanne Vogel and brother-in-law Frank Vogel, sister Sandra Harsch, and brother-in-law Loren Harsch, brother-in-law Gerrit Honcoop, brother-in-law Tony Honcoop, brother-in-law Billy Ray, nephew Ken Boonstra and Kathy Honcoop.
The graveside service with military honors was held at Floral Hills Cemetery in Lynnwood on Friday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m.
