Paul George Burroughs, 87, of Nooksack, died May 3, 2021, peacefully and unexpectedly at home in his sleep.
Paul was born Oct. 23, 1933, in Los Angeles, a son of Leuceine Burroughs and Catherine Van Alstine. He moved with his family to rural Whatcom County as a teenager.
Paul is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Lou Young Burroughs; two brothers, Van Burroughs of Fallon, Nevada, and Charles Burroughs of Sparks, Nevada; son Jon P. (wife Gay) Burroughs of Everson and daughters Marlene Pierce of Sumas and Patricia Pitt of Bellingham; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Paul worked hard his entire life doing jobs like driving a log truck, operating heavy equipment, working in Alaska on a fish trap and being a diesel mechanic. He retired after 24 years of service to Chemco Inc. at Cherry Point where he was employed as a millwright.
Paul was a humble, kind and compassionate man, often going out of his way to help a stranger. He was a devoted husband, caring tirelessly for his sweetheart for the past two years as Mary’s health and mobility declined. He faithfully attended and served his church for 54 years and will be greatly missed by his friends and family. May God keep his soul until the trumpet sounds and the dead in Christ rise to new life.
Memorial gifts in Paul’s honor can be made to LifeNets International (https://lifenets.org/), 1227 Woodchase Trail, Batavia, Ohio 45103.
Arrangements are by the Neptune Society of Lynnwood (cremation).
