Myrna Lee Kornemann Van Roekel, age 77, of Lynden, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2017.
She was born in Deadwood, South Dakota, on Feb. 17, 1940 and as a little baby moved with her family to the Lynden area. Myrna attended Lynden schools. She met Gerald Van Roekel through mutual friends and they were later married in 1968.
Myrna worked as the janitor and grounds keeper for Ten Mile Grange and did accounting for the family roofing business. She was a housekeeper and babysitter for many families. Myrna was energetic, had a heart for people and liked to socialize. She enjoyed her cats, raising poodles and helping in 4H, raising and fitting and showing rabbits. She liked family events and Birthday Club and was a member of Ten Mile Grange.
Myrna was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; parents Walter and Irma (Smith) Kornemann; brothers John Myron Ledoschuk, Swede Ledoschuk, Wayne Kornemann, Gary Kornemann and Gayle Kornemann; and sisters Doris Boice, Donna Harvey, Doreen Harvey and Barb Harvey.
She is survived by her children Valorie Van Roekel and Vince Van Roekel; granddaughters Ashley Heinzl and Sarah Heinzl; sisters Shirley (Matt) Lagerway and Faye Kornemann; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, in Monumenta Cemetery followed by a 1 p.m. gathering of friends and family honoring Myrna Van Roekel and Barb Harvey at the Sumas American Legion Hall, 134 Harrison St., Sumas, WA 98295.
