Mildred (Millie) Louise Passe, age 83, passed away peacefully at the Christian Health Care Center on Oct. 7, 2016. She was born on Jan. 28, 1933 in Nelson, Wisconsin, to Nels and Rachel Fuher, the only girl and youngest of four children.
Mildred graduated from Nelson High in 1950, salutatorian of her class. As a cheerleader at Nelson High, she met a football player from nearby Wabasha, Minnesota, Wayne Passe, whom she married in 1952. The next 20 years were spent traveling the world as the wife of an Air Force man. This traveling is shown by the births of their four children: Mark, born in Monterey, California; Linda, born in Oak Harbor, Washington; Bruce, born in Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Craig, born in Madrid, Spain.
During her working career, she was a secretary for 15 years for various businesses, and her greatest pleasure was that of being secretary at an elementary school. In 1970, they retired from the Air Force to Kasilof, Alaska. Living on the banks of the Kasilof River, she continued to raise her children until one by one they left home. Her children were the center of her life and she provided a loving and caring home for them. For 15 years she assisted Wayne in a general contracting business as the bookkeeper and in other assorted responsibilities. During her down time, Millie enjoyed sewing, ceramics and needle work. She enjoyed having family over and doting over her grandchildren and later great-grandchildren. In 1993 Wayne and Millie retired to Ryderwood, Washington.
There they got involved in making various crafts and she enjoyed traveling to various craft shows to sell their crafts. After Wayne passed away in 1999, Millie spent a couple of years in Auburn near her daughter Linda and then moved to Sumas with Mark, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She then resided at Christian Health Care due to ill health. The family wants to thank all the workers there for the loving compassionate care they gave Millie as well as all the other residents.
