Mary Ann DeVries, 80, returned to her heavenly home on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, in Bellingham.
Mary Ann was a kind, soft-spoken and loving mother, grandmother and sister, who will be greatly missed. Our solace is in knowing that she is now at peace.
Mary Ann was born in Nooksack to Fred and Tina Top of Everson on March 7, 1938. Mary Ann graduated from Nooksack Valley High School and shortly after was wed to Sid DeVries. Together they had three children. She spent her early years lovingly raising a family and once that task was complete she enjoyed several careers. The first was at the Western Washington University Bookstore where she was employed for many years and enjoyed the interaction with students. Mary Ann then worked for Whatcom County 911 dispatch and served a multitude of other duties in the Sheriff’s Department, eventually retiring from there.
Mary Ann loved golf, photography and traveling with friends and family. She was an avid crafter, well known for her festive holiday cards.
Mary Ann is survived by son Bryan (Cathy) DeVries, son William (Cassandra) DeVries, and daughter Lorraine DeVries; brother Jim (Lorraine) Top; grandson Ryan (Kindra) DeVries; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a private family service. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Society of Washington.
The family of Mary Ann DeVries extends sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at Brookdale Senior Living for their loving care and support through the years.
