Marlene Marshall, age 75, was welcomed into her heavenly home after passing away peacefully on Monday, March 13 at Whatcom Hospice House in Bellingham, after a brief illness.
Marlene was born Nov. 21, 1947 in Bellingham to William and Alice (Holm) Van Egdom. She grew up in Custer and Lynden and attended Lynden Public Schools, where she was successful in academics and sports, and graduated in 1965.
Marlene met Ronald J. Marshall while attending Western Washington University, and they were married on Aug. 20, 1966.
Marlene is survived by her husband of 56 years and their three children: Thomas (Kris) Marshall of Ferndale, Darla (Dave) Blackstock of Lynden, and Peter (Dee) Marshall of Canada.
Marlene is also survived by eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Her siblings are Richard (Diane) Van Egdom of Bellingham, Larry Van Egdom of Lynden, Ken (Connie) Van Egdom of Birch Bay/Arizona, and Wilma (Bill) Charleston of Everson.
Before moving to Bellingham, Marlene lived for many years in Everson, where her husband was an elementary school teacher.
Ron and Marlene were active members of Nooksack Valley Baptist Church, where she served as secretary for a time, prior to becoming members of Bellingham Baptist Church.
Marlene was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, finding bargains at garage sales, playing cards, family gatherings, her TOPs group, and church activities.
Marlene’s kind and loving presence will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
A service will be held on Wednesday, March 22 at 12:30 p.m. at Bellingham Baptist Church, 2501 Orleans St.
Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Greenacres in Ferndale. Flowers are appreciated.
