Mark Christopher Whitbeck, age 62, passed away in Ferndale on Aug. 16, 2016.
Mark was born on Sept. 25, 1953 in Hamburg, New York, to Francis and Daisy Whitbeck. He was one of four children. When Mark was 4 years old, the family headed west to California. In January 1994 he moved to Ferndale. On Sept. 10, 1998, he married Judi Pearson Whitbeck. Together they enjoyed almost 18 years of marriage.
Mark lived life on his terms — on the edge. Despite acting like the tough guy, he was incredibly likable and had a good heart. Mark took every chance he could to show his appreciation for the work and efforts of friends and family, lending a hand when he was able. He loved his motorcycles. And when he wasn’t riding, he was playing classic rock on his guitars. Mark had recently learned to play the drums too. He also enjoyed his remote-control cars and helicopters. Friday nights would often find Judi and him out dancing. In between it all, Mark worked as a flooring installer.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, son Christopher Whitbeck, and brother Martin Arthur Whitbeck.
He is survived by wife Judi Whitbeck, daughter Diana Hunter, son Brandon Whitbeck, daughter Rachel Whitbeck, sisters Carol Whitbeck and Vickie Shubert, 11 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A potluck will be held for Mark from 2:30 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the large shelter of Whatcom Falls Park in Bellingham.
