Marjorie Van Dyken, age 88, went to be with her Lord at Whatcom Hospice House on Thursday, May 26, 2016.
Marjorie was a lifelong Lynden resident, born Jan. 8, 1928 to Harry and Jennie (Lankhaar) Rupke. She had a brother Ken and sister Donna. After graduating from Lynden High School, she worked at Whatcom Dry Cleaners. Marjorie married Ralph Van Dyken in Lynden on March 11, 1948 and together they raised four sons and two adopted daughters out on their Pangborn Road dairy farm.
Marjorie had a strong faith in God and was a member of Faith Reformed Church. She loved being surrounded by her family, and enjoyed volunteer work through Project Hope and Hurricane relief, reading, gardening, picking apples and watching Seattle Mariners games. After retiring from the dairy, both Marjorie and Ralph loved to travel. They spent many winters in Yuma, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ralph; and granddaughter Charlotte.
Marjorie is survived by sons Paul (Cheryl) of Bellingham, Bob (Betty), Brian and Mark (Cheryl), all of Lynden; daughters Carla (Bob) Hodson of Arkansas and Cathy; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; sister Donna (Alvin) Bajema; brother Kenneth Rupke and Inge; brother-in-law Arnie (Gretchen) Van Dyken; and many other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2016 in Faith Reformed Church, Lynden, with Pastor Marcus Roskamp officiating.
