Marilyn Rae Hamstra, age 85, of Lynden, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016. She was born Marilyn Rae Zoet to Gerrit and Dena Zoet on May 28, 1930, in Bellingham.
Marilyn was a housewife and stay-at-home mom until the 1970s when she became secretary/bookkeeper for Skookumchuck Water Association and held that position for over 25 years. She was a charter member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church and volunteered on many church committees.
Marilyn is survived by two sons, Robert (Linda) and Michael (Penny) Hamstra of Lynden; five daughters, Elaine (Larry) Nyhoff and Mary Jane Hamstra of Lynden, Janet Johnson of British Columbia, Mavis (Stan) Sosna of Maui, and Jill (Tim) Nagle of Bellingham; longtime caregiver Maria Salazar; brother Derwent (Helen) Zoet, of Alabama, and sister Vera (Jim) Cook of Puyallup; 11 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Andrew, in 1989; son Mark in 1978; and granddaughter Joelle Berg in 2013.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
