Lora Marie Edwards went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Jan. 6. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Lora is remembered for her laugh, great sense of humor, and her love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lora was born on Oct. 4, 1938 in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan to parents George and Olga (Thoms) Goertzen. She met Bill Edwards at a skating rink in Sumas while she was still in high school.
Just one month after graduating from Abbotsford High School, Lora married Bill. After short stays in Seattle and Bellingham, they settled in Sumas. In 1959 they started Bill’s Texaco which eventually expanded into Sumas Napa, BJ’s Towing, and Lynden Napa Auto Parts stores.
Lora enjoyed family activities such as drag racing and attending their children’s high school sporting events and band concerts. She was involved in the Sumas Chamber of Commerce and the coordinator for the concession stand at the Sumas Jr. Rodeo.
Lora was a Camp Fire and Cub Scout Leader.
In retirement years, Lora and Bill took a job with Sports Services in which they traveled the Drag Racing circuit, living in a motorhome, selling souvenirs and seeing the United States. This was a highlight for her.
Lora is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years Bill Edwards Sr., children Jodi (Rich Postma), Nancy (Ron Postma), B.J. (Kaylene) Edwards, and Carrie (John Lankhaar), 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Lora will be greatly missed by her siblings Vic and Juanita Goertzen, Irma and Lee Palmer, Edwin and Karen Goertzen, Darlene and Bob Finch, Linda and Doug Crape, Sandy Goertzen, Ron and Denise Goertzen, and Debbie and Brian McKee.
Lora is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Harry Goertzen and Walter Goertzen.
A memorial service will be on Friday, Jan. 14 at 11 a.m. at Nooksack Valley Reformed Church. A private graveside service preceded in Sumas Cemetery.
