Laura Wolff Wells went to be with the Lord on Aug. 8, 2017 at age 96.
A resident of Meadow Greens retirement home for the past 12 years, Laura was born in Prairie County, Montana, on Jan. 31, 1921 to Christian and Christina (Rath) Wolff.
She moved to Tacoma, Washington, in 1942 and met Donald E. Wells while he was stationed at Fort Lewis. She married Donald on Jan. 20, 1943 and after World War II they made their home in Sumas for 44 years and then in Everson for 14 years before moving to Lynden.
Laura was librarian for the Sumas library for 13 years. She enjoyed Bible study, reading, homemaking, gardening, crocheting, knitting, traveling and especially her grandchildren.
Laura was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother; she had a gentle and caring nature and will be greatly missed. She was a member of the Nooksack Valley Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, a stillborn daughter; a grandson, Jeff Silves; and six siblings. She is survived by a son, Royle and wife Mary Wells of Blaine; two daughters, Beverly and husband Hans Vander Veen of Everson, and Darlene and husband Jerry Silves of Bellingham; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; also three brothers and two sisters.
We especially thank the staff at Meadow Greens and Hospice for their tender care of mom.
Private graveside services will be held at the Sumas Cemetery on Saturday, Aug. 19, at 10 a.m. with a memorial service at Second Christian Reformed Church, corner of Eighth and Front streets, Lynden, at 11 a.m., with refreshments following.
Services are in the care of Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Lynden.
