Lance Werner, retired professor with a Ph.D. from the University of Washington, died on Oct. 19, 2015. Lance’s commitment as a believer in Jesus Christ was well defined and we rejoice that he is with his Lord now.
Lance grew up in a pastor’s family. His parents, Loyal and Doris Werner, lived in a number of different states. Lance’s favorite place in his childhood was Geneva, Nebraska. He will be buried there beside his parents.
Though an only child, Lance enjoyed his extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was also blessed with friends from around the world.
The major part of his career as a professor was spent at Trinity Western University in Langley, B.C., Canada. At Trinity, he taught in the geography department from 1981 to 1999. During part of his career at Trinity he served as chair of the department.
Dr. Werner had a real passion for learning and desired to encourage his students in their studies. He led multiple student trips overseas to expand the students’ knowledge of geography and the world.
Lance was grateful for his membership at Third Christian Reformed Church in Lynden. A memorial service will be held there on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m.
