Karen (Scheffer) Nibbelink, 57, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died suddenly due to lung cancer surgery complications on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley. Memorial services were held on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at Trinity Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley.
Karen, daughter of Joe and Anne (Chudek) Scheffer, was born on Oct. 5, 1958, in Bellingham. She attended Sumas Christian Grade School and Lynden Christian High School before studying at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, where she met Jeff. Karen and Jeff Nibbelink were married on July 25, 1980. They resided in Seattle for two-and-a-half years and then they moved to Rock Valley in 1982.
Karen is survived by her husband, Jeff, of Rock Valley; three children, Kevin (Breanne) Nibbelink of Rock Valley, Brian (Kim) Nibbelink of Pueblo, Colorado, and Kaysha Nibbelink (fiancé Chris Van Essen) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; four grandchildren; brother Jim Scheffer (Jill Mesojedec) of Pompano Beach, Florida; sisters Janice (Wayne) Brink of Lynden, Sally (Gord) Van Corbach of Lynden and Marna (Dean) Kredit of Tempe, Arizona; and mother-in-law Norma Nibbelink of Pella, Iowa.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Anne Scheffer; and father-in-law Keith Nibbelink.
