Longtime Everson resident June Alice Violet Tyas, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016. She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on June 16, 1931 to Edward and Gladys (Cranston) Bater. June worked as a psychiatric nurse in New Westminster, B.C., prior to her marriage to Bill Tyas on Aug. 14, 1953 in Sumas. After Bill’s service in the Army, they returned to Whatcom County. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother and was a member of Goshen Community Church. June was very active in the family business and maintained her commercial driver’s license until her death. She instilled a love of God and family ties to her loved ones, and held a deep love and respect for her Savior.
June was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Bill, in 2008, and son Daniel in 1976.
She is survived by children Ed (Gerry) Tyas, Ken Tyas, Irma (John) Van Buskirk, and Ellen (Dennis) Daly; three grandchildren, Ryan Tyas, William Tyas and Douglas Tyas; several great-grandchildren; brothers Robert Bater and David Bater; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service in June’s honor was held on Saturday, Oct. 1, in Goshen Community Church, 6459 Mission Rd., Everson, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating.
