John Robert Sleeth, age 76, passed away peacefully on July 3, while in the care of Hospice in Sun City AZ.
He was born January 28, 1945 to Stanford & Phyllis Sleeth in Long Beach, CA.
Since 2005 his health had declined due to Parkinson’s Disease & Dementia.
He graduated from LHS Class of 1963. He married Gerry Ellen Ohmart Sept 4, 1965 at Garden Street Methodist Church.
He graduated from WWU December 1967.
He served in the ANG at the 262 CMBT CQ 1967 – 1973. He worked five years for Standard Oil Co in Bellingham & Burlington.
He worked 15 years for the telephone industry, traveling throughout Washington and Alaska.
Before retiring in 2017, he and Gerry Ellen owned & operated Speedy Automated Mailers, Inc for 33 years.
In 2006 and 2014, SAM Inc. was a Small Business of the Year Finalist at the annual Bellingham/Whatcom Chamber of Commerce awards banquet.
He was a member of Bellingham Bay Rotary, twice named a Paul Harris Fellow. He enjoyed playing the piano, organ, key board & most especially the opportunity to perform on the Mount Baker Theatre organ. His ham radio call letters were WA7 GDU.
He was a 33RD Degree Mason, actively involved for over 50 years with several branches of the Masonic Fraternity.
He served Grand Lodge as a District 10 Deputy; Grand Musician; Tribune Editor and on several committees.
He is survived by his wife Gerry Ellen; brother Bill & wife Julie (Tiplin), Oro Valley, AZ; sister-in-law Lynn Shepson-Sleeth, Beaver Dam NY; sister-in-law Marla (Trenkle) Ohmart & Ann Trenkle Sun City AZ; numerous cousins, nieces & nephews.
John is preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim Sleeth, sister Pam Sleeth & brother-in-law Jack Ohmart.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date, with interment at the Lynden Cemetery.
