John Nicholas Dunham was born on Aug. 4, 1940 to Gwinn and Viola Dunham. He grew up in Lynden along with brothers Gwinn Jr. and Chuck and sister Doris. He graduated from Lynden High School in 1958.
He then attended Multnomah Bible School for a semester before enrolling in the U.S. Army and serving in Germany. After leaving the service he met Margaret Brownlee while working at King’s Garden Christian radio station in Seattle. The two were married in July 1965 and had a son, Jeff. Mari passed away during her second pregnancy in August 1968. John had settled in Spokane where he met Barbara Barrick McMacken, a recent widow with two boys, Carl and Wayne. They were married in September 1970 and completed the family with daughter Michelle.
John spent most of his life in the retail industry. He was a co-owner in a clothing store. Following that, he worked at Harvey’s, Radio Shack, K-Mart and Sears. John loved music, especially gospel, and was very active in the music program at Valley Fourth Church. His love for God also was demonstrated in his involvement in the Gideons ministry of placing Bibles in hotel rooms.
John passed away Jan. 8, 2018 at his home in Spokane Valley. He loved his family and is survived by his wife, Barbara; all four children, Jeff, Carl, Wayne and Michelle; and nine grandchildren.
