Joene F. Steele, 66, of Hopedale, Illinois, passed away July 2, 2017 after a five-year battle with multiple myeloma.
She was born June 16, 1951 in Bellingham to Kenneth and Fransena Riley. She graduated from Mannheim High School in Germany. On Feb. 17, 1973 she married Larry E. Steele at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado.
Joene enjoyed spending time with family and friends and could often be found at her grandchildren’s sporting events or volunteering for local organizations. Before her retirement Joene worked for Kroger for 35 years. She always looked forward to their summer visits to Ferndale to see family and numerous friends.
Surviving relatives include husband Larry Steele of Hopedale; daughter Erin (Keith) Weaver and grandchildren Austin and Kiley Weaver of Hopedale; her mother, Fransena Wyngaert of Ferndale; brother Greg (Vicky) Riley of Kent; sister Renee (Larry) Arko of Ferndale; brothers Jeff Wyngaert of San Diego, California, Joe (Tina) Wyngaert of Ferndale and Michael Wyngaert of Akron, Ohio; and nephews Jeff and Tim Riley, Chad Arko and Joey Wyngaert.
Joene was preceded in death by her father Kenneth, stepfather Ed Wyngaert and sister Karen Wyngaert.
A memorial service for Joene was held on Tuesday, July 11, at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Hopedale.
