Jerry Vogel

Jerry Vogel, 55, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on Nov. 14, 2018, after an eight-month battle with cancer. He passed in the comfort of his own home with family present.

Jerry was born on Oct. 17, 1963, in Bellflower, California, to parents James and Harriet Vogel. He graduated from Valley Christian High School in Cerritos, California. In 1991, Jerry moved to Washington, met his bride Tami and they were married on Aug. 9, 1996 in Burlington. Jerry was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church in Lynden, and loved his church family dearly. His only comfort in life and death was that he belonged to his faithful Savior Jesus Christ and that without the will of his Heavenly Father not a hair could fall from his head.

Jerry had a passion for the water and would often be found entertaining his family and friends on his sailboat. Jerry loved caring for people by welcoming them into his home to enjoy conversation over meals. Anyone who knew Jerry knew he was a friendly, warmhearted person, always quick to smile and fast to lend a hand.

Jerry was a loving husband and a dedicated Daddy and will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 22 years, Tami, and his son, Jesse. One of Jerry’s greatest joys was becoming a Dad at the age of 42.

He will be lovingly missed by his brother, Bob Vogel (Betty Jean); sisters Joy Perkins (Keith), Betty Anne Vogel and Kimberly Vogel; parents-in-law Peter and Bonnie Wolters; brothers- and sisters-in-law Edward Wolters, Scott Wolters (Christine), Dale Wolters (Amy), John Wolters (Cady) and JoAnna Ott (Daniel). Jerry will forever be remembered by his many nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service in memory of Jerry will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, in Second Christian Reformed Church, 710 Front St., Lynden, with Pastor Ben deRegt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jerry’s name to the Lighthouse Mission, 910 W. Holly St, Bellingham, WA 98225.

You are invited to share your memories and condolences in the online guest book at www.GilliesFuneralHome.com. Arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
