Jean Estie was born in Bellingham to Agnes (Slotemaker) and Joe Estie. She had one older sister, Eleanor, and two younger sisters, Joan and Delores, and they were a very close-knit family. They lived in Bellingham until Jean was about 6 years old, and then the family moved to Lynden. Jean went to Lynden Christian Schools through the eighth grade and then to Lynden High School. After graduation she attended Calvin College in Michigan for two years and then came back to Lynden to teach second grade at Lynden Christian School. During her second year in college, she met and became engaged to Warren Yonker. On Dec. 28, 1948, they married. After completing two years of teaching, she left her job to start a family. She did, however, do a lot of substitute teaching. They had three children: Kent, Creg and Tami.
Jean loved children and enjoyed raising her family as well as working with children as a teacher. Jean and Warren were owners of the Montgomery Catalog Store in Lynden. Later she worked at JC Penny’s, also of Lynden.
Jean was widowed after her children were grown and out on their own. Nine years later, in May 1998, she married Albert “Shorty” Bosman and gained four stepchildren: Terry, Tim, Cheeta and Mitzi.
Jean has always loved reading, puzzles, games and was an avid Seattle Mariners fan. She was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church and had been since she was a child.
Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Warren Yonker; then her husband of 12 special years, Albert “Shorty” Bosman; daughter-in-law Mary Yonker; sister Delores Wood; and step-son Todd Bosman.
She is survived by children Kent Yonker of Zillah, Creg Yonker of Bozeman, Montana, and Tami (Mark) Vanderhage of Jerome, Idaho; grandchildren Alex Yonker, Angy (Bill) Wentz, Elisha (Ryan) Bruckner, Cory Vanderhage and step-grandson Todd Bailey; step-children Terry (Norma) Bosman, Tim (Lori) Bosman, Cheeta (Virgil) Stremler, Mitzi (Brent) Baldwin and Teresa Bosman; and numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
