Jane Young passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Nov. 12, 2016 in Bellingham. She was born north of Lynden in 1927 to E.J. and Winnie Elliott and grew up there on the family farm.
She attended Lynden public schools where she met her future husband, Robert A. Young. They both attended the University of Washington and were married for 63 years. Jane and Bob raised four children and lived in Seattle, Portland and Palo Alto and San Jose, California, before returning to Bellingham in 1971, where they lived until Bob’s death in 2011.
Jane played the violin for most of her life and was a founding member of the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra. She enjoyed volunteering in the community and was active with the Assistance League of Bellingham.
She is survived by her two sisters, Ann Boynton of Beaux Arts Village, Washington, and Nancy Sydnam of Anchorage, Alaska; her children, Julia Bastuscheck (Nathan) of Bend, Oregon, Dr. Charles Young (Maureen) of Mercer Island, Washington, Sarah Love (Rick) of Bellingham, and Ian Young of Seattle; five grandchildren; and extended family members, many of whom reside in Whatcom County.
The family thanks the staff of Vining Villa and Lynden Manor for their conscientious and loving care of Jane during her final years.
Funeral arrangements are through Moles Farewell Tributes. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
