It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of James Philip Sinclair, 1926-2016. Mourning his passing are his wife, Anne; his sons and their families: Keith (Alora), Ray (Diana)and Daryl (Stephanie); nine grandchildren: Adrea, Devin, Carly, Rebecca, Michael, Becky, Simon, Morgan and Andrew; and three great-grandchildren: Rosie, Rowan and Ryder. He is also survived by his sister, Olive Ten Eycke, in Toronto.
Jim was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, on April 10, 1926, and passed away peacefully at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham on Jan. 16, 2016. The family thanks the staff at Cascades and St. Joseph for the excellent care and attention Jim received.
A professional engineer, Jim had a long and successful career in power generation, culminating as general manager and director of Acres International, Buffalo, New York. On retirement, Jim and Anne chose Lynden as their home, residing there 23 years until Jim moved to North Cascades Health and Rehab Centre in Bellingham in 2014.
Jim and Anne loved to travel, circumnavigating the globe for business and pleasure for 40 years. Jim was an active member of Rotary in Canada and the United States for almost 50 years, including 25 years with the Mount Baker Rotary Club in Lynden. He was most proud of his involvement with a Rotary International project in Kathmandu, Nepal, for which he worked tirelessly to secure funding to build and expand the Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital, where a wing has been named in his honor.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, in Lynden United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Mount Baker Rotary Club in Jim’s name. You are invited to share your condolences and memories in the online guestbook at www.gilliesfuneralhome.com.
Arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Lynden.
