James Vernon Hawley, Jr., age 92 of Ferndale, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 13 in Bellingham.
He was born on October 5, 1929 to parents Leona and James V. Hawley, Sr. in Lynden. He grew up on Lummi Island and worked in the family business at Hawley’s Fishing Resort, and then owned and operated commercial reef netting boats while also working swing shifts at Mobil Oil Refinery.
He served honorably in the United States Navy as a Boatswain’s Mate Third Class.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Bonnie Jeanne; sons James Gregory Hawley, Mike (Cathy) Hawley, Jeff (Fiona) Hawley, and daughter Debi Hawley Spivak; grandchildren Rachel, Nathan, Steve, John, Kristen, Cassandra, Shanna, Amanda, and Brianna; as well as four great-grandchildren.
Jim was laid to rest at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale.
