George Young, longtime resident of Lynden, passed away Nov. 30, 2016. He was born on May 29, 1927 in Rockville, Nebraska.
After graduating from high school, George served in the merchant marines. He then married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Berck. They had three children, Georgia, Allison and Joel. George joined the U.S. Border Patrol and was transferred from El Centro, California, to Lynden in 1958. He retired in 1977 and became curator of the Lynden Pioneer Museum, building its Front Street scene. During those years, he and his wife became very involved in Dixieland Jazz and traveled the country attending the music events. He was briefly married a second time.
George was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn and daughter Allison.
He is survived by his children, Georgia Vaughn of Wenatchee and Joel Young of Maple Falls; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
