Geertje Salverda

  Geertje (Gaye) Salverda was born Aug. 21, 1933 in Warns, Friesland, the Netherlands, to Jan and Jantje de Jong-van Rijs. She died Aug. 1, 2016 in St. Joseph Hospital, Bellingham, following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Gerrit Bouma of Friesland, the Netherlands.
  Mrs. Salverda is survived by her husband of 55 years, Taeke (Ted) Salverda, of Lynden; daughter Jannette and husband Shawn Van Dyken, also of Lynden; sister Durkje Bouma-de Jong of Friesland, the Netherlands; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ype and Judie Salverda of San Diego, California, and their children: Sharri (Scott) Stinchcomb, Debbie (David) Skoglund, John (Elise) Salverda and Laura (Hampton) Warner.
  Mrs. Salverda was a member of the American Reformed Church in Lynden. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016 at the church, located at 8868 Northwood Rd., Lynden. Burial will follow in Monumenta Cemetery.
