Elizabeth “Betty” Hilverda, age 83, of Lynden, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 25, 2019, surrounded by her beloved family.
Betty was born Jan. 25, 1936, in Bellflower, California, to parents Jacob and Dora Huizenga. She was one of five children.
Betty attended Reformed Bible College, earning her teaching degree. She taught for two years in Langley, British Columbia, before marrying Bonne Hilverda on Aug. 15, 1961. Together they had three children, James, Ken and Rob. Throughout her life as a homemaker Betty was known by her children to be patient and kind, never complaining and always persevering.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bonne; son James; and brothers Albert (Jennie) Huizenga, Don (Lena) Huizenga and Gilbert Huizenga.
Betty is survived by her children Ken (Karen) and Rob (Crystal); five grandchildren James, Elaine, Patrick, Jordan and Brant; sister Agnes Lankhaar; sister-in-law Marian Huizenga; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
You are invited to join Betty’s family for the graveside committal at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, May 2, in Monumenta Cemetery, followed by a 2 p.m. memorial service in First Christian Reformed Church.
