Edna (Tjoelker) Vos, age 96, went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018. She was known for being gentle and kind, quiet but quick-witted.
Edna was born near Everson on March 6, 1921 into the family of Tye and Anna Tjoelker, the youngest of ten children. Edna attended Lynden Christian Grade School and graduated from Lynden High School in 1939.
Edna and Jake Vos met at a young people’s group roller skating party in Ferndale and married on Feb. 18, 1943 in Lynden. Together Jake and Edna raised six children near Everson on their Mack Road dairy farm, which they purchased in 1951. They sold their herd of 40 Holsteins in 1978 and continued living on the farm. In their retirement years, they loved to travel in their motorhome.
Edna was devoted to her church, her husband and her children. Edna and Jake were members of Everson Christian Reformed Church from 1951 to 2013. She volunteered at Lynden Christian School’s Cash From Trash program. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, vegetable gardening and canning, as well as tending her flowers, especially dahlias.
Edna was preceded in death by husband Jake, daughter Lorene Vander Zouwen, and grandson Douglas Vos.
She is survived by children Ken (Millie) Vos of Poulsbo, Gerald (Priscilla) Vos of Everson, Don (Janet) Vos of Parma, Idaho, Linda (Jeff) Kok of Lynden, and Bernie Vos of Everson; son-in-law Arie Vander Zouwen; 21 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Bill (Marlene) Vos; sister-in-law Winnie Miedema; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Frieda Van Dyk and Lois Preboski.
