A longtime resident of Ferndale, Dorothy Marie (Tawes) Van Egdom, 91, of Portland, passed away at Raleigh Hills Assisted Living in Portland on June 15, 2015. She was born in Bellingham on July 21, 1923, a daughter of Ira and Boletta (Jacobson) Tawes, and grew up in Ferndale.
On Dec. 22, 1943, Dorothy married Lawrence Van Egdom of Lynden while he was on military leave from World War II. After the war they settled in Ferndale where they raised three children, moving to Clatskanie, Oregon, in 1965. They also lived in Corvallis, Oregon, from 1973 to 1995, then Scappoose, Oregon, until Larry’s death in 2004.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband and younger brother Howard.
Dorothy is survived by her children and spouses: Wayne and Cathye Van Egdom of Portland, Karen and Stan Sampair of Clatskanie and Alan Van Egdom of Vancouver; grandchildren Kelly, Megan, Greg, Lawrence and Ashley; and great-grandchildren Kai, Maija, Annika, Ember, Kinsley and Enni.
Graveside services were to be held in Willamette National Funeral Home on June 30 at noon.
