Dorothy Joan “Anna” Schilder, age 98, of Lynden, passed away on Friday, Sept. 14, 2018. Anna was born May 10, 1920 in Barneveld, the Netherlands, to Dick and Gertrude (Vanden Brink) Van Dam.
When she was 3 months old, the family moved to Perkins Corner, Iowa, and when she was 7 to Clear Water, California. There she met and married Ben Schilder Jr. They had two children, Benny Schilder (deceased) and wife Winnie and Geri Nydam and husband Dick.
In 1969 she moved with her husband to Lynden. She was a member of Netherlands Reformed Congregation.
Anna was preceded in death by Ben, her husband of 67 years, and son Benny.
She is survived by daughter Geri (Dick) Nydam; six grandchildren, Annetta (Ron) Lanting, Valerie (Steve) Walthall, Lori (Jake) Slegers, Janie (Nick) Struiksmans, Frank (Sue) Nydam and Ben (Sheri) Nydam; 12 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Van Dam and Helen Schilder; and many nephews and nieces.
Visitation is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, in Gillies Funeral Home. Graveside will be in Monumenta Cemetery at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. in Netherlands Reformed Congregation on Depot Road, Lynden.
