David Crabtree joined his Savior whom he loved and faithfully served on July 31, 2015. David lived in the Lynden area his entire life, a son of Benjamin and Ruth (Frost) Crabtree.
David was born on March 22, 1921. He graduated from Lynden High School in 1939 and married his lifetime sweetheart, Doris Dickinson, on May 12, 1942. David and Doris purchased the Jackman homestead and farmed there for their entire lives.
David is survived by his children Ron (Barb) Crabtree, Sheri Shirley and Stephen (Kristin) Crabtree and is the grandfather of 13 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Hazel Crabtree and Mona Dickinson; brothers-in-law Roland (Caroline) Dickinson and Hersel Dickinson and many nieces and nephews.
David was very active in his community, serving on the Lynden School Board, Word of Life (now City Bible) Church board, Prison Ministries, Lighthouse Mission and a Sunday Service ministry at the Christian Health Care Center for many years.
He loved the outdoors and spent his free time hiking, camping, mountain climbing, hunting and fishing, gardening and enjoying quality time with family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Doris; son Donald; and siblings Jule Crabtree, Elsie Englert, Ruth Miller, Ben Crabtree, Vincent Crabtree, Forrest Crabtree (died at birth), Keith Crabtree and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015 at Gillies Funeral Home. The graveside committal is 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Lynden Cemetery followed by a 2:30 p.m. memorial service at Sunrise Baptist Church, 2480 W. Badger Rd., Custer. Memorials in David’s name can be made to the Christian Health Care Center, Sunday Ministries.
