God knew what he was doing when he brought Clavel DeVries into this world on June 14, 1934 — born to Ward and Ilhone Vander Griend, joining big sister Robin and being there when Sylvia and Mike were born.
Clavel led a full, adventurous life surrounded by friends everywhere she went. Whether you knew her as Ma, Clavel, Sis, grandma, great-grandma or mom, she loved you with all her heart.
God knew it was time for her to join him in the early morning of June 25, 2018 surrounded by family.
She is survived by tons of family she was so entirely proud of: son Craig and wife Vicki; daughter Kenda; 10 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and a niece. Yes, we were busy!
Waiting for her in heaven are her parents, daughter Laurie, great-granddaughter Shaylene, son-in-law Fred; and many old friends she couldn’t wait to have coffee with and catch up.
Clavel didn’t want a fuss, so we got permission from her to have an open house to honor her life and have some great coffee and conversation. No crying!! So, from 1 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 25 at 112 E. Grover St., Lynden, we will gather to celebrate a life greatly lived and a life to be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Northwest (she loved her team!!) and the American Cancer Society.
