Charles Robert Hubby was born in Rockford, Illinois, to parents Norman “Jack” Hubby and Mary (Jepsen) Hubby.
Chuck moved to Sumas in 1955 with his parents, three older sisters and a dog named Tippy. His school years were spent in the Nooksack Valley School District. He began his love of basketball in the fifth or sixth grade and he continued to play through high school, also participating in track (running the quarter and half mile) and cross-country.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mary Jane (Hubby) Cardon; nephew Anthony “Tony” Ehlers; niece Lissa English; and nephew Richard “Rick” Greenberg.
He is survived by sons Ryan and Chris (Tosha) Hubby; and grandchildren Payton, Maisen, Karsen, Riley and one on the way.
Chuck was a loving dad and always supportive, even if he didn’t agree with the choices that were made. He was always there to help when called upon.
Chuck is also survived by sisters Louise (Darryl) Ehlers, Norma (Norm) Otto and Barbra Greenberg; brothers Mike and John Hubby; and numerous nieces and nephews.
When asked what he did for work, Chuck would answer: “I spent all my life wearing myself out hauling lumber and agricultural products, such as hay, corn and cranberries from point A to point B.” He travelled mostly between Whatcom County and Eastern Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and California. His last employer was Bogaard Hay Company.
Chuck loved to fish, especially with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed going to old car shows and collecting and listening to 1950s-era records. He had a fine sense of humor.
