Bonita “Bonnie” Jansen, age 93, passed away at St. Joseph Hospital on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019. Bonnie was known for being a loving mother and wife. Family was always important to her.
Bonnie was born in Nooksack on Dec. 6, 1925, to Percy and Dolly (Handy) Hanowell. She was one of five children. She attended Nooksack Valley schools. At the age of 17, Bonnie wed Nicholas Jansen on April 30, 1943, and together they farmed on the Kline Road. After a time the couple moved to a home on Marine Drive., then to Bakerview Road and finally King Tut Road. While Nick was busy with his Firestone tire shop, Bonnie kept their home warm and inviting and six children busy.
Bonnie loved working in her flower garden growing dahlias and roses. She enjoyed traveling, fishing out in the bay with Nick, and hunting.
Bonnie is survived by children Nikkie Howard, Donald (Theresa) Jansen, Ron Jansen, Rick (Marcy) Jansen and Rochelle Murray; brother-in-law Joe Bruschetto; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her brother Jimmy Hanowell and sister Sandra (Frank) Drake.
Bonnie was preceded in death by husband Nicholas Jansen, daughter Carol Bruschetto, sister Barbara Lankhaar and brother Percy Hanowell Jr.
A private graveside service will be held in Monumenta Cemetery later in the week.
