Beverly A. Matter passed away Dec. 1, 2017 with a smile on her face as she went to meet her Lord. She was 89 years old.
Bev was born in Sumas, Washington, on Sept. 9, 1928 and moved to Lynden with her family when she was 6. Her father Les built and opened the Gillies Funeral Home with living quarters upstairs for his family. Bev was the middle of three sisters, between Barb and Joan.
Bev went on to college and opened a real estate company in Seattle and an escrow company in Snohomish with her husband, George Fischer, who passed in 1977. Bev was later married to Buzz Hunt and spent years enjoying life on a boat in Everett until his passing. Later, Bev moved back to Lynden and married her high school friend Augie Matter in 1999 and they enjoyed many years together. She spent her final years with her dear friend Speed Erickson. To know Bev was to know that she was born to care for others and she lived life to the fullest.
She is survived by her sons Van and Bob, and other children Chuck and Doug, Kim, Pam and Linda. She had many son and daughter in-laws, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she loved them all immensely and unconditionally. Bev was preceded in death by her sister Joan and is survived by her sister Barbara.
Funeral services will be conducted by Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden. A memorial service will be held in First Christian Reformed Church of Lynden, with Pastor Barry Blankers officiating, at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8. A private graveside service at Acacia in Seattle will precede.
