On Jan. 7, 2018, Betty Grace Postma passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. After battling cancer, Betty was restored to health with her Savior in Heaven.
Betty was born on Feb. 20, 1938 in Artesia, California, to Charles and Rena Reitsma. She attended Bellflower Christian School for 12 years. She married John Postma on July 30, 1957 in Bellflower, California. John and Betty moved to a dairy farm near Sedro-Woolley, Washington, in 1964.
When she was young she worked as a nurse, then became a mother and devoted her time to raising her five children. Later in life she was a bus driver and worked in retail at the Washington Cheese Company, Bible Book Store and Bargains Galore. Throughout her life her faith in God was the center of everything she did. She spent many years in service to the church and school, through many different avenues. She spent much time in volunteer service to others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Postma; daughter Lori Visser; brother Louis Reitsma; and two grandsons.
She is survived by her daughter Valerie (Gary) Kortus; son Greg Postma; son Charlie Postma; daughter Jonna Knight; sons-in-law Dave Visser and Richard Knight; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brother Richard (Mary Jo) Reitsma; sisters Audrey Adema, Sylvia (Clarence) Wybenga and Julie Beach; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at Union Cemetery in Sedro-Woolley on Friday, Jan. 12. A memorial service was held the same day in First Christian Reformed Church of Mount Vernon, with Pastor John Knoester officiating.
