Andrew Bergsma
Andrew Bergsma Sr. age 90 went to be with his lord and savior on Friday, Nov. 26.
Andrew was born on Dec. 14, 1930 in Long Beach, California to parents George and Tine Bergsma. He completed 10th grade in Artesia California. Andrew was joined by brother Arthur and sister Helen.
Andrew was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. He was a Seaman on the escort carrier USS Sicily and shared many stories and photos.
Andrew married Grace on Dec. 14, 1951.
Andrew dairy farmed in Chino, California for a time before moving up to Lynden and dairy farming on Double Ditch Road. For many years Andrew was a janitor at Dutch Mothers Restaurant and then at Faith Reformed Church.
Andrew enjoyed working with flowers on his patio and working alongside his wife Grace.
Andrew is preceded in death by daughter Jennie Ann Bergsma, daughter-in-law Rachel Bergsma, and brother Art Bergsma.
Andrew is survived by his wife of 70 years, Grace; children George (Rachel) Bergsma, Andrew (Rhonda) Bergsma Jr., Glenn (Denise) Bergsma and Colleen Hansen; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
You are invited to join family and friends for Andrew’s memorial service at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6 at Faith Reformed Church, Lynden.
