Allen Robert Harvey, age 68, of Sumas was born in Bellingham to Bob and Barbara (Ledoschuk) Harvey. He served in the U.S. Army in the 199th Light Infantry Brigade in Vietnam. He came back a changed man. He then spent nearly 30 years at Intalco before retiring.
Al loved the outdoors. He hunted, fished and hiked until he got older. He was preceded in death by his parents and only sibling Harlan, who died almost two years ago from the same thing that Al faced, pancreatic cancer. Al was a quiet, sentimental guy who cared more than he let on. He loved sports, especially Seahawks football.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; son Chad and granddaughter Ellie; step-son Scott Pike and granddaughters Kai and Olivia; aunts Shirley Strotz Lagerwey and Faye Kornemann; nephews Rob Harvey (Stephanie), Kraig Harvey (Katie) and Tim Pham (Lenneth); nieces Randi Lautenbach (D.L) and Kami Douglas (Greg); and numerous other relatives.
A graveside service with military honors ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Nooksack Cemetery, followed by a potluck celebration of life at the Harvey home afterward. All family and friends are invited.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice.
