Jared Allen Jones “Shorty,” known for his love of sharing Jesus and his adventurous ways, died unexpectedly on March 15, 2018, at the age of 33.
Jared was born April 8, 1984 to Randy and Jean Jones in Bellingham. He was immediately flown to Children’s Hospital and endured many surgeries. Jared grew up in Everson attending Nooksack Valley schools. After high school, Jared worked in construction and helped his mom at various furniture stores, but his proudest accomplishment was working for Crista Ministries. He loved the people and hope they gave.
Jared accepted Jesus at the age of 5 and continued to share him even in his darkest days. His favorite verse was 1 Peter 5:7. He was an encourager, someone his friends looked to when they struggled. He adored his grandparents, spending many hours just listening to their stories.
Throughout Jared’s life, he didn’t let his birth defects stop him. He loved extreme sports: skateboarding, riding motorcycles and snowboarding, and was always known for pushing his friends faster and higher. He loved to hunt in Eastern Washington with his dad and other family. Jared was known for being a prankster, always looking for your smile.
Jared was preceded in death by grandparents Albert and June Jones, uncle Richard Vander Yacht and cousin Shyla Alsum.
Jared is survived by his mother Jean Jones; father Randy Jones and Lisa; sister Katelin (Troy) Nelson and nephew arriving in July; grandparents Jim and Rose Alsum; wife Marie Baldwin; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members. He will be greatly missed by his friends, coworkers and beloved Seattle Salvation Army Treatment Staff and Alumni.
