Dolores Miller

Dolores A. Miller of Nooksack passed away on March 6, 2018. She was the only child of Stanley and Dorothy Loch Sumner. She was born on her grandparents’ farm near Toppenish, Washington, on Aug. 20, 1931. She lived near Toppenish for the first 10 years of her life before the family moved to Tygh Valley, Oregon, where she attended grade school and then Maupin High School.

In 1946 a young man named Johnny Miller came to look at a horse the family owned. Within a very short time Johnny and Dolores knew they each had found the love of their lives. They went on to marry and spend the next 70 years together. The couple farmed, raising livestock and crops, as well as maintaining a wonderful vegetable garden and fruit trees. Johnny worked for the Department of Agriculture, and upon his retirement in 1986 they moved to Whatcom County to be near their children. Dolores was a homemaker and a very much loved wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid card player and loved reading mystery novels.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband Johnny and daughter Carol Miller.

She is survived by son Jim Miller (Karen) and daughter Mary Terry (Mike); grandchildren Susan Terry-Price (Dean), Stephanie Zapien (Dave), Jackie O’Bryan (Mick) and Jason Miller (Lesha); great-grandchildren Kaylee and Kelsie Miller, Riley Zapien, and Michael, Austin, McKenzie and Cameron O’Bryan; and great-great-granddaughter Paislee Miller.

At her request, there will be no service. Burial will be in Nooksack Cemetery at a later date.
