Minnie Priscilla Pohlman passed away on Feb. 23, 2018 in Everett. She was born March 6, 1940 in a farm house near Custer, Washington, the second child of Arnold and Hilda DeKubber.
Her artistic abilities were obvious by the age of 5. She remembered sitting on her grandfather DeKubber’s lap watching him draw windmills, animals and farm scenes. Her father, also an artist, loved the ocean and painted many ocean liners. She attended Lynden Christian Grade School, then transferred to Lynden High. After graduating in 1958, she embarked on a career of more than 35 years in the insurance industry. Once retired, she was free to pursue and refine her amazing talent. Many of her paintings hang on the walls of local homes. Minnie was an avid sports fan, of the Seahawks, Mariners and Huskies, to name a few. She loved to fish, travel, cook and volunteer.
Minnie was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Lisa, who sadly lost her life in 2003. She is survived by her two grandchildren, Kristen and Domenick Oberto. She was also preceded in death by her father, mother and older brother, Frans.
Minnie is survived by a sister, Mary Buben (Vern, deceased) of Kodiak, Alaska; brothers John (Jennie) DeKubber of Custer and Arnold (Dorothy) DeKubber of Lynden; nieces Nancy DeKubber, Carol DeKubber, Kerri (Woody) DeKubber Woodward, Mandi DeKubber and Kelley (Chad) DeKubber Bouma; nephew Aaron DeKubber; several step-nieces and -nephews; and best friend “Colleen.” We are all comforted in the knowledge she was welcomed with open arms by our Heavenly Father and Son, Jesus Christ.
Donations can be made in Minnie’s name to the American Heart Association.
