Irving Carlson

Irving Richard Carlson, age 95, of Lynden, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017 at the Christian Health Care Center.

Irving was born in Seattle on March 16, 1921, a son of Albin and Selma (Johnson) Carlson. He grew up in the Ballard area of Seattle where he graduated from Ballard High School in 1939.

He was married to Alberta Moseid on Sept. 24, 1943. In this marriage Irving and Alberta were blessed with two children, Paul Richard and Janice Elizabeth. In July 1977 tragedy struck the Carlson family when Alberta and Irving were involved in a serious automobile accident on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge which instantly took the life of Alberta. Miraculously, Irving did not suffer major injuries in the accident and he was a widower until Dec. 28, 1978 when he married Violet Hawes of Duluth, Minnesota. Violet passed away Aug. 8, 2005. Interestingly, both of his wives were born the same day, month and year, Alberta in Wisconsin and Violet in Minnesota.

In 1959 Irving and his family moved from Ballard to Edmonds, Washington, and then again in 1991 he and Violet moved to Lynden, where he continued to live until his passing.

Irving is survived by his children, Paul (Beverly) Carlson and Janice (Fred) Mulder; five grandchildren, Bethany (Shaun) Farris, Rebecca Carlson (Jonathan Eytinge) and Katie, Jeremy Mulder and Carrie (Erikk) Teschlog; and great-granddaughter Ella Teschlog and (expected in the spring) Cecelia Ann. To his grandchildren, he was known as “Buppa.”

His major employment years were spent at the Boeing Company where for 42 years he served in various supervisory capacities in office functions known as Administrative Services. He was also a member of the Boeing Management Association. Irving was a member of City Bible Church – North Sound in Lynden.

Irving counted it a privilege to serve in various church board positions for many years of his adult life which included secretary, deacon and elder. He was a charter member of Westgate Chapel in Edmonds, where he was much involved from the very beginning of this church and until moving to Lynden.

In addition to his serving the Lord in various church functions, Irving enjoyed music, boating, fishing, photography, walking and also some traveling.

Memorials may be made to: The Missions Fund of City Bible Church, 1986 Main St., Lynden, WA 98264.
